WAPA President’s Project 2011: Improving Literacy

WAPA President Dave Wilson has selected literacy for his 2011 President’s Project. At the fall conference he collected books to be donated to an inner city reading program here in Wisconsin, and many books were collected.

In addition WAPA is asking for PAs to go out and read to children in schools. Reading kits are available through the WAPA office by contacting wapa@wapa.org or by calling 920-560-5630. Kits include a book for the age appropriate, instructions on what to do including suggestions for discussion with the students, and bookmarks to give to the students. The book will be left in the classroom or for their school library. All it takes is a few minutes of your time!

If you have more questions, please contact Kim Shefchik, PR Committee Chair at kmdalebroux@yahoo.com.

WAPA is looking for PAs to volunteer in their local elementary school to read to children. Kits are available through the WAPA office including everything you need!

WHY? Reading to children at an early age improves literacy for a lifetime! Promote PAs in your community!
