Train the Trainer Session
Thursday, March 22, 2018
Session Options: 8:00-9:00 am, 9:15-10:15 am and 10:45-11:45 am
Be part of the solution - Attend a Stop the Bleed "train the trainer" session! Massive bleeding from any cause, but particularly from an active shooter or explosive event where there may be a delayed response, which can result in victims' death from exsanguination. Just like the public trains in CPR, they must also learn proper bleeding control techniques using hands, dressings or tourniquets to prevent loss of victims who can die from uncontrolled bleeding within 5-10 minutes. STB is a collaboration between the American College of Surgeons, the Heartford Consensus and the Department of Homeland Security to bring this training to healthcare professionals, so that they can bring it to their communities. WAPA would like to train as many Wisconsin PAs as possible, and then support them in going out to their communities to provide this training locally to schools, church groups, etc. A WAPA STB committee would support you in these efforts going forward.
After attending this session, participants will be able to learn and practice principals of trauma care response and scene safety. They will also be familiar with the ABC principals: A - Alert, B - Find the bleeding, - Compress - control the bleeding. They will also be able to provide this training in their communities.
