PAs Springing Forward! Into Leadership - Jenna Dorn, MPA
"Leading is not the same as being the leader. Being the leader means you hold the highest rank, either by earning it, good fortune or navigating internal politics. Leading, however, means that others willingly follow you—not because they have to, not because they are paid to, but because they want to." -- Simon Sinek. Leadership comes in many shapes and sizes, from leading your support staff, to being on a committee, to being the CEO. Today’s dynamic healthcare marketplace not only creates greater opportunities for PA leadership, but greater urgency for PAs to step up on behalf of themselves, their teams and their patients. We are very excited that Jenna Dorn, AAPA CEO, will be discussing why we should care about personal leadership, how we can develop our leadership skills, understand how we can become more involved in organizational leadership, and what resources are available to aid in developing those skills. Resources and case studies from AAPA’s Center for Healthcare Leadership and Management (CHLM) will be part of this session. This is a lecture you won't want to miss!
1. List some of the key PA leadership competencies.
2. Recognize key national trends impacting opportunities for PAs in leadership.
3. Examine their institutions' PA (or PA/NP) leadership structure, or lack thereof, for basic strengths and weaknesses.
4. Define the mission of CHLM and understand how its services and offerings benefit PAs and employers.
