Workshops at the 2020 WAPA Spring CME Conference

Dental Pain and Infection Control Workshop

Thursday, April 2, 2020

  • Session 1: 8:30-10:30 am
  • Session 2: 3:30-5:00 pm
    Cost: Free

Get them out of pain, get the infection under control and get them to a dentist. With over 18,000 patients a year showing up in Wisconsin EDs and urgent cares, dental pain has reached epidemic proportions . We'll share information on the Wisconsin Dental Pain Protocol, which includes an evidence-based clinical algorithm on non-opioid and opioid pain control, local anesthetics and antibiotic-prescribing specific to presenting infections. The majority of the session will be a hands-on training on local anesthetics. We'll be gloving and masking up, sticking our hands in each other's mouths, identifying anatomic landmarks, and making local anesthetic nerve blocks and infiltrations simple. Those interested will also be able to practice on each other or on your instructors. That's right, if the session is boring, you can take your revenge.

Women's Health Workshop

Thursday, April 2, 2020, 1:00-3:00 pm

This workshop is specifically designed for PAs working in gynecology or primary care but it also open to students and providers in other specialties. You will learn the practice and skills needed for Nexplanon insertion and removal, IUD insertion and endometrial biopsy and will practice these techniques on models. This workshop will be led by women's health specialists and product consultants. Upon completion of the course, you will receive a Nexplanon training certificate.
